Elmer Dobberstein, 83, of rural Ellendale

The funeral service for Elmer R. Dobberstein of rural Ellendale will be 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 27, at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, New Richland. The Rev. Philip Lewison will officiate. Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Owatonna. Military honors will be accorded.
Elmer died Friday, Feb. 24, 2006. He was 83 years old.
Elmer was born Jan. 1, 1923 in Byron Township, Waseca County to Edward J. and Emma (Bolduan) Dobberstein. He graduated from Waldorf High School. Elmer married Mable Agnes Berndt on Sept. 12, 1948, at the First Lutheran Church, Waldorf. He has resided in Waldorf, New Richland and since 1960 rural Ellendale. Elmer was a member of St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of New Richland. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Elmer enlisted on Sept. 18, 1944 and was
honorably discharged on July 7, 1946. He had served in China. Elmer was a farmer and a self-taught machinist. Elmer enjoyed working with machinery and doing repair work. He enjoyed traveling. Elmer had a special love for his family. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Elmer is survived by his wife Mable Dobberstein of Ellendale; three sons: Jim Dobberstein of Ellendale,
Allen Dobberstein and his wife Barb of Ellendale and Steven Dobberstein of Minneapolis; nine grandchildren: Luke Dobberstein and his wife Brenda, Joshua Dobberstein, Dawn Dobberstein of Ellendale, Brian Dobberstein and his wife Angela of Geneva, Jeffrey Dobberstein, Michelle Dobberstein, Michael Dobberstein of Ellendale, Erin Dobberstein
and Jonathan Dobberstein of Minneapolis; five great-grandchildren: Evan, Alex, Bennett, Kelly and Montrel, brother Arthur Dobberstein and his wife Margaret of New Richland.
Elmer is preceded in death by his parents: Edward and Emma Dobberstein; daughter: Carol Dobberstein; infant daughter; brothers: Reinhardt, George and Roy; and grandson: Randy Michael Dobberstein.
