The Albert Lea volleyball team swept Mankato East on Thursday to win its first Big Nine Conference match of the season.

Annie Ladwig had 13 kills, and Camryn Keyeski and Sydney Rehnelt had 21 and 20 digs, respectively, as the Tigers impressed coach Jaime Mauseth following a disappointing loss Tuesday to Austin.

“They had so much energy and played to win,” Mauseth said. “They had some amazing saves, and I’m proud of how hard they worked tonight.”

Bryn Woodside had 25 set assists for the Tigers who won 25-23, 25-17 and 25-17. Rehnelt had seven kills, and Claire Buendorf and Abby Pleiss each had three kills.

“We talked about being the team we are and getting really excited for all three games,” Mauseth said. “They went for everything.”

The Tigers play again at 7:15 p.m. Thursday at Mankato West.
