First Lutheran Church Women met in Bethany Hall at 1:15 p.m. Sept. 14.

Prelude music was provided by Joan Holt.

Marlene Behle welcomed everyone, and acknowledged the pioneer women along with women who have served as presidents of FLCW over the years. Behle also led everyone in reciting the purpose statement.

Devotions were given by Bonnie Schneider who used two autumn devotional readings along with a devotion written on this exact date in 1930.

Cathy Carter introduced Holt who accompanied members and guests singing five favorite hymns that were familiar to everyone in attendance.

Carter introduced the program which was “Freeborn County Historical Society” expansion project given by Pat Mulso. Mulso said that the Historical Society had absolutely outgrown its facility. She showed pictures of the rooms that were so filled that there was no more room for anything to be added to the displays. They have hired Eagan Associates who will build their new addition. Their goal is $1.7 million to complete this project. Mulso’s presentation was informative and interesting.

The secretary’s report had been distributed along with the program, and upon motion by Nancy Jenson, seconded by Jane Loge, this report was approved and will be filed.

In the absence of Beth Doyle, Marcia Habben gave the treasurer’s report for FLCW. Habben also offered that Doyle would purchase items for the kits for Lutheran World Relief and will put the kits together herself, if Circle members wish to donate toward the kits. Habben asked that items for the Used a Bit shop as well as the Used a Bit Plus shop be at the church between Nov. 9 and 16 so that these items can be marked for holidays ahead. They are accepting jewelry to be sold at the Used a Bit Plus shop.

Elaine Peterson reported for Lois Jensen, corresponding secretary who is recovering from surgery. Peterson stated that the only correspondence was from World Relief, Global Health and River Crossing. These items will be placed in the library.

Old Business: None.

New Business: Ione Kelly reminded our FLCW that there were openings on the Prayer Chain group as some positions needed to be replaced due to women that were no longer able to make this commitment. Please let Kelly know if you can be of assistance to this most worthwhile group. She said they could either call Betty Ruud or herself.

The group all sang “Lift High the Cross” as the last hymn.

The offering was received, followed by the offering prayer by Carter.

Schneider thanked the ushers who were: Behle, Vonnie Oftedahl and Marge LaFrance. Schneider also thanked the greeters who were Phyllis Hamborg, Neva Mathison, Peterson and Nancy Jenson. Also thanked were the wheelchair attendants: Virginia Hermanson and Jan Overgaard.

Hostesses thanked were: Chairperson Lorraine Bakken and her committee, Eileen Flugum, Ann Hanson, Bev Hoium, Marlene Jensen, Jeanne Lageson, Delores Oakland, Rosemary Vangen and Joy White.

Caring and Sharing: Co-Chairpersons Arlis Smith and Helen Lovik and their committee served three funerals in August.

Schneider corrected some of the announcements listed. The Mount Carmel Trio Concert was held Sept. 18. St. John’s Lutheran Home would hold a fundraiser Sept. 25 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Lutheran World Relief van was planned for Saturday, Oct. 8. World Community Day at First Lutheran Church would be Friday, Nov. 4, and Holidays Ahead would be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19. Overgaard reminded everyone of Friends at First with Joan Grow as guest speaker.

FLCW will serve coffee between services in October and anyone interested in serving or bringing treats, please see Marge Moine or Schneider. Remember Sunday School children are always interested in picking up a treat before they go to their classes.

As there was no further business, the group prayed the Lord’s Prayer together.

The Table Prayer was sung before the group had a delicious lunch.
