The Albert Lea Lakes Foundation is offering a $100 reward for information leading to the person who dumped a pickup-size load of trash Tuesday night in the St. Nicholas Park parking lot off of Albert Lea Lake.

A member of the foundation, who did not wish to be named for fear of retribution, called the Tribune Wednesday morning about the trash, which contained an old, torn mattress and other black bags of trash.

He said he was shocked someone would dump the trash, especially in that location which is so close to the lake.

He called it into the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office and then called up some of the other members of the foundation to see if they wanted to get involved.

“There are people who are concerned about this, and we’re not going to just let it slide,” he said.

After all the work that is done to clean up the lakes, he said it is frustrating when someone just dumps a load of trash next to the lake. It would have likely ended up in the lake if not reported to authorities.
