Carmen Brune, 82, of Conger

Funeral services for Carmen O. Brune, age 82, of Conger, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at the Bear Lake Concordia Lutheran Church. The Rev. Gary Hanson will officiate. Interment will be in the Mansfield Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, at the Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the time of the service at the church on Saturday.

Carmen died on Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, at St. John’s Lutheran Home.

Carmen Olivia Mattson Brune was born on Feb. 14, 1923, in rural Emmons, the daughter of Hjalmer and Ella (Gerhardt) Mattson.

She was baptized at the Mansfield Lutheran Church, and confirmed there in September of 1935. Carmen attended District 121 and the Opdahl schools, where she completed the eighth grade. She graduated from Alden High School in May of 1941. After completing her education, Carmen taught school for ten years in rural schools and then for two years in Alden. On June 20, 1955, she was united in marriage to Karl Brune at Mansfield Lutheran Church.

Carmen was in 4-H and was a 4-H leader for many years. She was both a Sunday school and Bible school teacher. She was an active volunteer at St. John’s Lutheran Home, serving as chairman of their cheer programs for 13 years and as treasurer of the St. John’s Auxiliary for two years. She was active in the United Way drive in Conger. Carmen also helped as an election judge in Conger for about 15 years. She will be remembered for her dill pickles, her mock angelfood cake and her garlic toast.

Survivors include her son Luverne and his wife Kelli Brune; her daughter-in-law Lori Brune; grandchildren Lance, Larissa, and Laci Brune, Daymond Ramsey, and Aaron Brune; brother Leo and his wife Phyllis Mattson; and nieces and nephews.

Carmen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Karl; her son Loren; and brothers-in-law Elwin and his wife Ella Brune and Clarence Brune.
