NEW ULM &045; Fifty-eight seconds unraveled two-plus periods of good work by the Albert Lea girls’ hockey team as it lost to New Ulm, 6-5.
The Tigers broke a 3-3 tie in the third period with a goal from Jenna Christensen.
However, New Ulm would seize control of the game with three goals in a 58 second span.
&8220;We haven’t figured out how to keep our intensity up after scoring,&8221; said Albert Lea head coach Steve Falk.
&8220;They funneled everything really well towards the net.&8221;
Marissa Cottrell would add a goal late in the third period with the assists going to Haley Habana and Lauren Klick.
The Tigers pulled their goalie after that but were unable to put the tying tally in the net.
Albert Lea jumped out to a 2-1 lead after the first period thanks to a pair of goals by Laura Hillman.
Sarah Jensen would account for the Tigers’ lone tally in the second on a powerplay effort assisted by Christensen.
&8220;We are 6-0-2 on the year when we give up three goals or less and 1-7 when we give up more than three goals so the writing is on the wall,&8221; said Falk.
The Tigers continue their road warrior ways with a game at rival Austin Tuesday before finally returning home next Thursday to face Mankato East in another Big Nine Conference battle.
