Thelma Guenther, 93, of Alden

Thelma G. Guenther, age 93, of Alden, died on Monday, Dec. 26, 2005, at Good Samaritan Center in Albert Lea.

Funeral services will be Friday, at 1 p.m. at United Methodist Church in Alden, with the Rev. Lynn Borgeson officiating. Visitation will be held at the United Methodist Church in Alden from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 29, and one hour prior to services at church on Friday. Interment will be in the Alden Cemetery. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells is in charge of arrangements.

Thelma Genevieve Pierson Guenther was born Aug. 2, 1912, the daughter of Arvid and Frances (Dile) Pierson on a farm southwest of Alden, Freeborn County. She married Lincoln &8220;Slick&8221; Guenther on Jan. 14, 1931, at the Ed Thomas home in Albert Lea. She attended District 70 country school through the eigth-grade and graduated from Alden High School. She was active in 4-H and was also a leader when her sons were in 4-H. Thelma attended Sunday school and was a teacher for 50 years at United Methodist Church where she was a faithful member, being involved with the ladies group as secretary of UMW for many years, along with being chairman. She was a member of the Alden Senior Citizens and the Historical Society, and held office of secretary in both groups. Thelma was also church council secretary for many years. She was a member and the treasurer of Good Cheer, and involved in many activities in the community. Thelma enjoyed cooking and gardening, along with displaying food items and table settings (decorating) at the Freeborn County Fair. She won many ribbons. She was given the award of &8220;Outstanding Senior Citizen&8221; of the year in Freeborn County in 2003, and also was crowned &8220;Queen&8221; of Morin Lake Days.

She is survived by two sons: Robert and his wife Betty Guenther, and Douglas and his wife Charlene Guenther, all of Alden; six grandchildren: Daniel Guenther of Prior Lake, Minn., Susan and husband Dwight Borland Sr. of Prior Lake, Minn., Charles and Wade Guenther of Phoenix, Ariz., Renae Bryson and Michelle and husband Lars Olson, all of Branson, Mo.; nine great-grandchildren: Kristine, Dustin, Jason (fianc Rachel Nelson) Guenther, Eric and his wife Erica Guenther, Ashley and Jamie Guenther, Dwight Borland Jr., Bobby Bryson and Karsten Olson; four great-great-grandchildren: Karley Sue Guenther, Kateriana Guenther, Krystian Guenther and Adian Guenther; sister-in-law: Evelyth Tiede of Alden.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lincoln, one brother Wesley Pierson and one great-grandson Timothy.

Memorials preferred to the United Methodist Church of Alden and/or the Historical Museum of Alden.
