Jim Olson, 67, Ellendale

Services for Jimmie Marvin Olson, 67, of Ellendale will be at 11 a.m., Monday, Oct. 31, at First Lutheran Church of Blooming Prairie. The Revs. Dick Hegal and Heidi Heimgartner will officiate. Burial will be in the Geneva Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, at Michaelson Funeral Home and from 10-11 a.m. on Monday at First Lutheran Church of Blooming Prairie.

Jim died Thursday, Oct. 27, 2005, at his home.

Jim was born on Dec. 30, 1937, in his parents’ home to Chris and Anna (Pedersen) Olson. He attended rural district #82 school. He worked at Paul D. Jones potato warehouse in Hollandale, where he met his wife Jo Anna. He then worked at Donovan feedmill in Albert Lea and also part time at the Albert Lea newspaper.

He married Jo Anna Simmons on Oct. 15, 1955. Soon after, they purchased a farm in the Ellendale area and later acquired the Olson family farm. Jim was involved in dairy and crop farming his whole life.

Jimmie and Jo Ann were blessed with four children and seven grandchildren: Jimmie Jr. and wife, Jean, of Maple Grove and their three children, Jake, Mitch and Molly; Jeff of Owatonna; Jon of Ellendale; and Janice Pederson and husband, Jeff, of Ellendale and their children, Nate, Tyler, Josh and Jennafer.

Jim was an avid reader, especially of westerns. Jim enjoyed farming, playing cards and talking with friends over a good cup of coffee at the Ellendale truck stop, or with the frequent friends and visitors to his home and farm.

He is survived by his wife Jo Anna; his children and his grandchildren; his sisters, Irene Metcalf and her husband, Rex, of Austin, Texas; Erlys Cole of Austin, Texas; Mary Ann Rohwer and her husband, Bill, of Medford; sisters-in-law, Marion Utpadel of Owatonna and Eva Olson of Owatonna;

Donna Gettman of Wichita, Kan.; Melanie Betels of Clear Lake, Iowa; and Robin Willhite of Wichita, Kan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Edwin and Anton; his brother-in-law, Merlin Cole; and by his two nephews, Alvin and Duane.
