The USC/AC boys and girls Cross Country teams competed in the Milaca Mega-Meet on Saturday.

Billed as the largest one-day high school cross country meet in the world, the mega – meet draws teams from all over Minnesota, including the majority of the top 12 rated teams. A total of 51 teams competed in the Class A division.

The Rebel boys finished

in ninth place while the girls finished in

11th.

Leading the boys with a

20th place finish was Eric Youngblom. The girls top finisher was Jamie Klein who ran her best race of the season to place

11th.

&uot;Anything in the top 20 is an excellent performance in this Meet, said USC/AC head coach Kent Viesselman.

Brad Tomschin finished 29th for the Rebel boys and Greg Opseth was 74th.

Amber Erickson and Joelle Elmer finished 69th and 78th, respectively, for the girls.

The boys junior varsity also turned in a good team performance, finishing

13th in that competition.

&uot;In the JV competition, the three classes are combined,&uot; said Viesselman. “There were a total of 88 teams from all three classes in the JV competition, with over 400 runners competing.” The Rebels actually finished third of the Class A teams.

&uot;A real bright spot for us was the performances turned in by Greg Opseth,

Erik Melby, Sam Hallman and Shane Bias. Each of them had, by far, their best performance of the season. It was good to see them perform well in really tough competition,” said Viesselman.

St. Cloud Cathedral won the boys’ team race with 93 points followed by Blue Earth Area with 108 while Fairmont

was third with 128.

The girls’ team race was won by Providence Academy which recorded 102 points.

East Grand Forks was the runner-up with 110 and Visitation

was third with 143.
