ALDEN &045;&160;Houston had a problem against Alden-Conger.
The Hurricanes’ defense keyed on runningback Ryan Wach &045;&160;who scored five touchdowns in last week’s game &045; but that left plenty of running room for the Knights’ other talented backs.
Led by senior Josh Cords’ three rushing touchdowns, Alden-Conger picked up its first win of the season, 34-12.
Even though the Hurricane defense was able to slow Wach it by no means stopped him as the Knight still ripped off 161 yards on 19 carries and scored once.
A-C fell behind early on a 20-yard pass play from Andy Sires to Zach Stackhouse putting Houston up 6-0.
However, the Knights would score 34 unanswered points starting with Wach’s 74-yard race to the end zone for his team’s first score.
Mitchell Kleinschrodt followed that up with a 9-yard effort that got him past the goal line, and put A-C up for good with a 12-6 first quarter lead.
Cords would score the Alden-Conger’s final three touchdowns with two second quarter tallies from 4 and 6 yards and a 14-yard rumble in the third quarter to cap Alden’s scoring on the night.
&uot;Mitchell is the backup running back but I really think he is just another Wach, and Cords is a big, bruising fullback who was able to wear them down by the second half with his hard running,&uot; said
Alden-Conger head coach Chad Mattson of his team’s success on the ground.
