ROCHESTER &045; The last two seasons, the Albert Lea Tigers lost 1-0 to the Lourdes Eagles by a late goal.
Tuesday night, the Eagles said no more by capitalizing on the Tigers’ slow start and weak teamwork to win 4-0.
The Eagles went up two goals in the first seven minutes.
Two later soft goals, one in each half, put the Tigers down for good.
&uot;No excuses.
We did not execute the same game plan that worked successfully for us at Owatonna,&uot; noted Albert Lea head coach Rick Barnhill.
&uot;Lourdes is consistently one of the top programs in the state; you cannot give them an even break because they will make you pay.
We came out too confident and got a good lesson in humility.&uot;
Albert Lea is 2-2 on the season and 2-0 in the Big Nine which is a much better start than last
year.
&uot;This season’s objectives are to learn, adjust and move forward,&uot; said Barnhill.
&uot;The next two are conference games at (Mankato) West and (Rochester) Century.
It is the only time we face them this season, so these games count double in the standings.
I am confident that this team will do well by applying the lessons of the first four games.&uot;
In junior varsity action, Lourdes triumphed 4-0 and to finish the sweep, the Eagles C-squad won 6-0.
