The city worker injured Thursday after part of a downed tree fell on him has been transported to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, according to a spokeswoman from Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea.
The condition of the worker, Monte Santee, is unknown as of Friday afternoon.
“Our thoughts are with the employee and the employee’s family,” Albert Lea City Manager Chad Adams said.
Santee was clearing debris from a downed tree in front of 716 W. Fountain St. at the time of the incident.
The tree had fallen across Fountain Street during a bout of heavy wind.
He was reportedly cutting the tree into smaller pieces with a chainsaw when another part of the tree fell and hit him in the head, knocking him to the ground.
Adams noted an internal review will be conducted of the incident.
