Faye Johnson, 91, Wells

Faye Bishop Johnson, age 91, of Wells, died Monday, Aug. 1, 2005, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m.. Thursday, Aug. 4, at United Methodist Church in Wells with Pastor Dean Stille officiating. Visitation will be held at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells on Wednesday, Aug. 3, from 5 to 8 p.m., and one hour prior to services at church on Thursday. Interment will be in Rosehill Cemetery in Wells.

Faye was born Jan. 27, 1914, the daughter of Arthur G. and Maude Mae (Durkes) Slaughter in Dallas Center, Iowa. On Sept. 19, 1934, she was united in marriage to Charles A. Bishop in Wells. To this union four children were born. Charles preceded her in death in 1967. On May 7, 1976, Faye was married to H. Clarence Johnson in Sioux Falls, S.D. He also preceded her in death in 1984.

Faye lived most of her life in the Wells area, graduating from Wells High School and Normal Training. She taught one year of school near Waseca. Faye was a member of United Methodist Church and the UMW. She was an active member of the Wells Senior Citizens, past president of the Wells Development Corp., charter member of the Glass Jar Food Co-op, and a 4-H leader. She led the Chit-Chat discussion group at Parkview Care Center. Faye also played piano at Senior Citizens and other groups in the area. She ran a waterfowl hatchery for many years. She enjoyed traveling, reading, watching public television, dancing and doing crossword puzzles.

She is survived by her son, Dean and his wife Agnes Bishop of Austin;

daughter, Merle and her husband Charles Harlan of Burnsville; grandchildren: Susan (Kevin) Miller, Dennis Bishop (special friend Barbara Morem), Dana (Mike) Steichen, and Patrick and Grant Harlan; 10 great-grandchildren:

Heidi, Maigan, Curtis, Michelle, Derek, Kevin, Kyle, Paige, Carter and Samuel; and three step-children:

Harlan and his wife Lois Johnson of Luverne, Minn., Betty and her husband Perry Thompson of Hanska, Minn., Sonia and her husband Curtis Asleson of New Ulm.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; two sons: Dale and Keith Bishop; and a brother, Ralph Slaughter.
