Iva Proehl, 84, Mapleton

Iva M. Proehl, age 84, of Mapleton, died Sunday, July 17, 2005, at Immanuel-St. Joseph Hospital in Mankato following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 22, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Mapleton, with the Rev. Rhea Evanson officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday, July 21, from 6 to 8 p.m., and one hour prior to services at church on Friday.
Interment will be in Union Cemetery in Mapleton. Arrangements are by Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home, Wells.
Iva was born on Feb. 7, 1921, in Freeborn to George W. and Julia (Jacobson) Hinkley. She grew up in Freeborn and was a graduate of Freeborn High School. She attended beauty school and worked as a hair stylist. She married Harrison Schmiesing on Sept. 7, 1945. He preceded her in death on May 26, 1977.
She married Gerald F. Proehl on Jan. 30, 1988, in Cambridge, Minn. She had lived in Glenwood, Minn., Cambridge, and later in Mapleton for several years. She had lived at Sibley Manor in Mankato the past two years. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Mapleton and a past member of the Cambridge Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cambridge. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Iva is survived by children: Roy and wife Kathy Schmiesing of Springfield, Va., Glen Schmiesing and wife Nancy Plummer of Newark, Del., Joyce Schmiesing of Los Angeles, Calif., and Dale Schmiesing of Columbia Heights, Minn.; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers: Vernon and wife Alice Hinkley of
Albert Lea, and Floyd and wife Doris Hinkley of
Albert Lea; sisters: Gladys and husband Bill Miskoff of
Hutchison, Minn., and Eleanor Fjone +- Albert Lea; step children: Ardis &uot;Ardy&uot; and husband Bill Estrem of
Slater, Iowa, Warren G. and wife JoAnn Proehl of Mapleton, and
Ardy Proehl of Mapleton, and Arla and husband Herb Kintigh of
Spencer, Iowa; seven step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands: Harrison in 1945, and Gerald in 2003; and half brothers: Irving and Raymond Hinkley.
