Doris Thompson, 85, Albert Lea

The funeral service for Doris Edna Thompson will be held 10 a.m. Friday, July 8, at LeSueur River Lutheran Church, rural New Richland. The Rev. Charles Espe and Intern Cary Larson will officiate. Burial will be in LeSueur River Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Friedrich Funeral Home in New Richland, and one hour before the service at the church.

Doris died Monday, July 4, 2005, at St. John’s Lutheran Home, Albert Lea. She was 85 years old.

Doris was born in Hampden, N.D., on Oct. 21, 1919, the daughter of Gerhard and Bernice (Wheeler) Sabin. She grew up in Weaver, N.D., and was a graduate of Rake, Iowa, High School.

On Dec. 10, 1939, Doris was united in marriage with Ernest Thompson in Frost. During their marriage they had lived in Baudette, Frost and finally New Richland. They were members of LeSueur River Lutheran Church where Doris had been active in Ladies Aid and Circle.

Doris had worked at E.F. Johnson in Waseca, for 20 years. She was a member of the Albert Lea Sons of Norway and the Waseca Senior Citizens.

Doris and Ernest had been members of the Albert Lea Grapevine Twist Square Dance group and they also enjoyed doing ceramics for many years.

Doris is survived by three daughters: Dorene (John) Hansen of Fosston, Minn., Sheila Hanson of Albert Lea, and Hope Ann McKinzie of Waseca; daughter-in-law, Judy Thompson of New Richland; 10 grandchildren: John Hansen, Jim (Trisha) Hansen, Scott (Jean) Hanson, Kristine (Vince) Wakefield, Wendy (Corey) Johnson, Stephanie Johnson, Graham Johnson, Stacey (John) Konopa, Rhonda (Dave) Lindquist, and Jill (Chad) Citurs; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Evelyn Ferley, Ralph (Gladys) Sabin, Ronald Sabin, John (Connie) Sabin; sister-in-law, Carrie Wetter; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ernest, in 2003; daughter, Sandra at birth; son, Gary Thompson, in 2000; sisters: Virginia and Judy; brother, Eugene; and son-in-law, Roger Hanson.
