Cordelia Johnson, 95, Albert Lea

The funeral service for Cordelia “Cord” D. Johnson will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, June 16, at First Lutheran Church, Albert Lea. The Rev. Dan Baker will officiate. Burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Bonnerup Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.
Cordelia died Monday, June 13, 2005, at St. John’s Lutheran Home. She was 95 years old.
Cordelia was born in Hartland on July 8, 1909, the daughter of Knute C. and Gunhild (Burtness) Johnson. She was baptized and confirmed at Hartland Lutheran Church. She attended grade school at District 62 in Hartland. She was a 1926 graduate of New Richland High School and attended Winona State Teachers College and was a graduate of St. Cloud State Teachers College.
Cordelia taught school in Hartland, Manchester and Hayward for 15 years. She then worked as a tax examiner for the U.S. Treasury Dept. in Los Angeles, Calif., Minneapolis and St. Paul, retiring in 1969 after 24 years. During her life she had lived in Hartland, St. Paul, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Pompano Beach and Deerfield Beach, Fla., and finally Albert Lea.
Cordelia was a life member of National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE). She enjoyed sewing, playing the organ and piano, and reading.
Cordelia is survived by three nieces: Kathryn Amann and Virginia Hermanson, both of Albert Lea, and Karen Wolgamot of Mahtomedi, Minn.; and several great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; six sisters: Lena Johnson, Othelia (Adolph) Mellang, Cariga (Roy) Hogaas, Clara Johnson, Lyda Johnson, and Georgia (Joe) Cammack; five brothers: Oscar Johnson, Gilmore (Florence) Johnson, Albert Johnson, Reuben (Ruth) Johnson, and Warner Johnson; and niece, Georgia Roscoe.
