Lynn Rand &uot;Westy&uot; Westrum, age 82, of Wells, died Sunday, April 24, 2005, at his home in Wells.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m.Wednesday, April 27, at St. Casimir Catholic Church in Wells with the Rev. Eugene Stenzel officiating. Visitation will be held at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells today, April 26, from 4 to 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and one hour prior to services at church on Wednesday.
Interment will be in St. Casimir Catholic Cemetery in Wells with military honors by the Wells Color Guard.
Lynn
Rand Westrum was born Feb. 20, 1923 in Windom, Minn., the son of Howard and Sophia (Schultz) Rand. His mother, Sophia, died in 1925, at which time Lynn and his brothers Floyd and Herbert were placed in the Owatonna orphanage. In 1928, Carl and Bertha Westrum of Glenville raised Lynn. He attended Glenville Elementary School and Albert Lea High School. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army Infantry in the South Pacific Theatre from 1943-45. He married Maxine A. Schultz on June 4, 1946, at St. Casimir Catholic Church in Wells.
He worked for 36 years running trains for the Milwaukee Railroad. The couple lived in Austin for 30 years, moving to Wells in 1972. He was a member of St. Casimir Catholic Church, a lifetime member of the Wells VFW and Wells American Legion Posts for 59 years, and a member of the United Transportation Union. His hobby was railroading and after retirement he toured the countryside on his Gold Wing motorcycle. He enjoyed shaking dice and drinking coffee at the local establishments. He spent 10 years on dialysis from 1995-2005.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine Westrum of Wells; Two sons: Bob Westrum of Emery, S.D., and Chuck and his wife Ann Westrum of Brighton, Colo.; one grandson, Jake Westrum of Emery, S.D.; one brother, Floyd Rand of Danube, Minn.;
brothers-in-law: Arnold and wife Edith Schultz, Jim and wife Sharon Schultz, and Marvin and wife Kathy Schultzm all of Wells; sisters-in-law: Loretta Brummer of Alden, Teresa Oelke of Guckeen, Lorraine Horvat of Austin, and Jean Ann and her husband Dean Clarke of Lakeville; and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Herbert,;foster parents; Carl andBertha Westrum; and brothers-in-law: Phillip Brummer, Mike Schultz, Wayne Oelke and John Horvat.
