Funeral services for Michelle Kay Bettin-Bren, 37, of Crystal, will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church in Glenville. The Rev. Jim Rushton will officiate. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Michelle died unexpectedly Monday, Oct. 3, 2011, at Hennepin County Medical Center.
Michelle Kay Bettin-Bren was born on April 25, 1974, to Mike and Jan (Tarrence) Bettin in Mason City, Iowa. She graduated from North Kossuth Schools in Swea City, Iowa, in 1992. Michelle went on to graduate from McConnell Travel School in 1994. On Oct. 14, 2000, Michelle was united in marriage to Joe Bren in Burt, Iowa. Michelle was employed by Marriott for two years and then went to work for the Hilton Hotel in downtown Minneapolis where she worked the front desk as supervisor, PBX operator, and was proud to work with the Minnesota Vikings at the hotel. Michelle and Joe adopted their daughter Amanda at the time of her birth on June 20, 2005. Amanda was the light of her life. They would cuddle and Michelle always told Amanda she loved her to the moon and back. Michelle enjoyed doing crafts of all kinds. She called the Vikings “her guys” and followed their games faithfully. Michelle was a planner and organizer with a happy and outgoing personality. She loved being around people and always saw the good in everything. Michelle loved spending time with her family and going on camping trips. Joe and Michelle especially loved going on several cruises to the Caribbean. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Blessed be her memory.
Survivors include her husband, Joe; daughter, Amanda; mother and step-father, Jan and Dennis Baseman; brother, Dan (Lori) Bettin; nieces: April and Michaela Bettin; uncle, Scott (Terri) Bettin and their children Benjamin, Genevieve and Nathaniel Bettin; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family; in-laws, Jim (Pat) Bren; sister-in-law, Michelle Hopkins and her children Megan and Sydney; as well as numerous extended family and friends.
Michelle was preceded in death by her father, Mike Bettin; grandparents: Glenn (Juanita) Bettin, Pearl Zimmerman and Clyde (Cecil) Tarrence; as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.
