You Can Help

The following are some of the volunteer opportunities currently open in Freeborn County. If you can help with any of them or would like to volunteer for others, call Pat Stumme, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program director, at Senior Resources, 377-7433.
Fountain Lake Bookstore: Volunteers staff this unique bookstore on the lower level of Albert Lea City Hall and libraries. Great conversations, coffee and book chats abound while you take a shift as clerk at the bookstore. Call Carol Frydenlund at 377-2785 for details and to schedule your time.
Salvation Army Food Shelf and Community Meals: You can help nourish families and individuals in Freeborn County by volunteering at The Salvation Army. Volunteers are needed 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. any weekday to fill food boxes of about 25 pounds. Others will help between 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. one or more days a week to prepare, serve, clean up or visit with folks coming for the noon meal. Come try it out or shadow another helper. You can set a schedule in the week that works for you or offer to be an on-call helper. Call The Salvation Army 373-8776.
Minnesota Reading Corps in Albert Lea: If you think you might be able to work one-on-one with a child to help improve reading skills, come to one of the two meetings at Sibley Elementary School’s library on at 4 or 6:30 p.m. Oct. 13. This is orientation for Reading Corps Partners where you can ask questions. Call 379-5080 for more information.
RSVP, a program of Senior Resources of Freeborn County, receives some funding through the United Way of Freeborn County, the Minnesota Board on Aging and the Corporation for National and Community Service.
