Local man called to lead Naval reservists in the Gulf

The men and women of the Mobile Inshore Undersea Warfare Unit 102 &uot;Sharks&uot; are mobilizing
in early March and will deploy to the Middle East to serve in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
The eyes and ears of the fleet, composed of over 100 Naval reservists, now recalled to active duty, MIUWU 102 provides command, control and communications to the many units in the area.
&uot;The mission is to conduct surface/subsurface surveillance of amphibious objective areas, harbors and approaches, roadsteads, straits, anchorages, advance bases, and other inshore areas of military or economic importance in order to support the requirements of mobilization or contingency plans&uot; said OIC, Cdr. Paul Jensen, of Alden.
Through the use of surface surveillance and subsurface surveillance, the Sharks will provide vital support protecting High Value Assets (HVAs) in the North Arabian Gulf region. The Sharks provide support to coalition forces by aiding in the transfer of materials, machinery and personnel from the seaports to the various units throughout the Arabian theater of operations.
