This weekend and next, the Albert Lea Eagles are pulling out all the stops to raise money for the fight against cancer.

Saturday brings a number of activities at the Albert Lea Eagles Club, beginning with a drive-by cash and aluminum can collection from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wine tasting will take place from 10 a.m. to noon, and hot beef will served for $5 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. There is a Scotch Double 8-Ball pool tournament beginning at 10 a.m. as well as a cribbage tournament. Silent auctions will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with something different every 20 to 30 minutes. A live eagle from Wabasha will be at the club from 1 to 3 p.m. There will be live entertainment by Lefty and the Old Timers from 1 to 4 p.m. A benefit supper featuring stuffed pork chops will be served from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. There will be a live auction from 7:30 to 8 p.m., with closing music by Full House starting at 8 p.m.

On Saturday, Jan. 22, the cablethon begins at 10 a.m. A white elephant sale starts at 9:30 a.m., lunch is at 11:30 a.m., supper is served at 5:30 p.m., and the telethon starts on Channel 10 at 8 p.m.

Sunday, Jan. 23, brings the annual cancer breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

In Geneva, auctions to raise money for cancer are being held this Friday and Saturday as well as next Friday and Saturday.

Cancer seems to have touched everyone’s lives in one form or another, and thanks to groups like the Eagles, progress has been made in the fight. There are advances in treatment every day, and while more people get cancer, more are surviving it as well.

The Eagles have many opportunities to take part in raising money, and if you can, we urge you to do so.

We also applaud the Eagles for their hard work over the last 51 years in their cancer telethon events. They are truly people helping people.
