A 26-year-old man was arrested early Saturday morning after he reportedly fled from authorities on an ATV — going as fast as 75 mph — and then ended up in a drainage ditch near Hartland.

According to a Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office news release, Donald Ketterling, no address listed, was arrested for a series of charges including driving while intoxicated, fleeing in a motor vehicle, failure to display Department of Natural Resources registration, ATV operation restrictions, criminal damage to property, speed, due care, reckless driving and failure to provide insurance.

He was expected to appear in court Tuesday.

The release stated a deputy saw Ketterling traveling westbound at 45 mph in a 30 mph zone on County Road 33 in Hartland at about 1:22 a.m. Saturday.

The ATV attempted to stop at a stop sign but went past the sign, sliding sideways.

The deputy then activated his emergency lights, indicating that the ATV driver needed to stop. However, Ketterling began driving faster.

The deputy turned on his siren as Ketterling continued to travel west on County Road 33.

The driver turned south on 685th Avenue just west of Hartland, where he was clocked traveling at about 75 mph. He came to some curves on 685th Avenue and 290th Street, where he took a field driveway out into a bean field.

The ATV ended up going into a drainage ditch, where Ketterling was arrested.
