Alice W. Herrmann, 93, Winnebago

Alice W. Herrmann, age 93, of Winnebago, formerly of Delavan, died Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, at Parker-Oaks in Winnebago. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, at the Bass Lake Community Church, with Rev. Robert Conklin officiating. Burial will be in Bass Lake Cemetery, rural Winnebago. Visitation time will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Spencer-Owen Funeral Home in Winnebago. and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

She was born March 19, 1911, at West Plains, Mo., the daughter of Frank and

Mary (Pengilly)Ripley.

She attended rural schools in Missouri and when they moved to Minnesota, she attended high school at Elmore and Huntley before graduating from Winnebago High School in 1929. Alice attended Mankato Teacher’s College and taught in rural schools for two years. On Oct. 3, 1941, she married Charles Herrmann of Delavan. To this union were born five children.

Alice belonged to the Bass Lake Community Church, Bass Lake Birthday Club, Delavan Flower and

Garden Club, and the Farm Bureau. She was known for her love of wild flowers and her gardening skills. Alice faithfully provided floral arrangements for the church for many years. Alice and her husband Charlie enjoyed feeding and watching birds. Her grandchildren fondly remember grandma’s fresh baked bread, monster cookies, and homemade raspberry jam. During the last four years, Alice enjoyed the arrival of the great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, William and his wife Judy Herrmann of

Delavan; daughter, Rosemary and her husband Kyle Olson of Albert Lea; daughter, Elsie and her husband Jim Rivard of

Ft. Meyers, Fla.; daughter, Helen and her husband Ray Gaddy of

Marianna, Fla.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, James and his wife Sharon Ripley of Carthage, Mo.; brother, Richard and his wife Joyce Ripley of Winnebago; sister, Elizabeth and her husband Robert Lawrence of Hemphill, Texas; and brother-in-law,: Albert and his wife Bonnie Herrmann, Delavan,

She was preceded in death by her husband in March 2004, parents, and an infant son.
