That didn’t take long.
One season after setting a school record with 39 regular-season wins, the Lake Mills volleyball team set a new one. The Bulldogs finished the regular season a perfect 40-0 on Thursday with three wins at a quadrangular in Forest City, Iowa.
The Bulldogs swept two-game series over St. Ansgar, Forest City and North Sentral Kossouth/Armstrong-Ringsted, and finished the season 92-2 in sets.
“I liked our aggressive approach tonight,” Bulldogs coach Jim Boehmer said. “Defensively we have to move our feet better. We have a lot to improve on before we start regionals.”
The Bulldogs open the Class 2A Region 6 Tournament at 7 p.m. Tuesday against Osage in Lake Mills.
The second-ranked Bulldogs began Thursday’s quadrangular with a 21-10, 21-12 win over St. Ansgar. Boehmer said it was a nice start to the night as the team served 37-for-39 and had 18 kills.
Lake Mills then defeated North Iowa Conference rival Forest City for the third time this season, 21-15 and 21-11.
“We did get out early in each match and that was good,” Boehmer said. “Forest City took a set from us in the conference so we know how dangerous they are.”
In the final match of the night, the Bulldogs defeated NSK/A-R 21-13 and 21-14. Josie Brackey led the team with eight kills and went 14-for-14 serving with three aces.
Brackey finished the season with 326 kills and team highs in service aces (66) and digs (184).
Shelby Kuper added 202 kills, and Catherine Adams and Kelci Larson led the team in blocks with 53 and 52, respectively.
Morgan Fjelstad, the team’s setter and reigning North Iowa Conference Player of the Year, notched 716 set assist this season.
