The Minnesota Twins will unveil a statue of the late Kirby Puckett before their home opener at Target Field.
The team announced the plan on Monday, with the rest of the festivities for the breaking in of their new ballpark on April 12.
Local artist Bill Mack created the bronze Puckett statue, which will be placed on the pedestrian plaza beyond right field. Statues of Rod Carew and Harmon Killebrew have already been installed.
Gates will open early, three hours before the 3:10 p.m. game starts against the Boston Red Sox. Killebrew, Tony Oliva, Kent Hrbek, Carew and Puckett’s son will ceremonially open the five gates, which are labeled with each of the players’ retired uniform numbers: 3, 6, 14, 29 and 34.
