Agnes Marcella Isabelle Iverson, 87, Northwood, Iowa

Agnes Marcella Isabelle Iverson, age 87, of Northwood, Iowa died Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 22, at the First Lutheran Church, 309 N. 9th St., Northwood, with Rev. Wayne Hagen officiating. Burial will be in the Silver Lake Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Northwood. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Ave. S., Northwood. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to service time on Monday at the church.

Agnes Marcella Isabelle Iverson was born on Aug. 31, 1917, in Freeborn County, the daughter of Peder and Ida (Loken) Madsen. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith at the Round Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Glenville, and reaffirmed the faith of her baptism through confirmation in the North Shell Rock Lutheran Church, rural Northwood. She attended Hartland Township #4 schools in Northwood and graduated from Northwood High School. She also attended Waldorf College in Forest City and graduated from Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Falls. Agnes graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education from Mankato State College. After completing her schooling, Agnes taught for 13 years in the in the Hartland Township #4 and #5 in Worth County, and also taught first grade for 22 years in the Northwood-Kensett Community Schools until her retirement.

She was united in marriage to Jay Iverson on June 24, 1950, at the First Lutheran Church in Northwood.

He preceded her in death on Aug. 10, 1980.

After her retirement, Agnes did volunteer work in Northwood and Worth County.

She loved gardening, baking, playing the piano, singing, and loved the outdoors, but her great love and enjoyment was her family and grandchildren.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church, Julia Circle, former member of the church council, taught Sunday School and Bible School, Golden Tones Choir, retired teachers association, and was a member of the Worth County Historical Society.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Iver Iverson of New York City, N.Y., James Iverson and his special friend Jorene Gunderson of Northwood, Jon Iverson and his wife Janell of Northwood, and Peter Iverson of Phoenix, Ariz.; two grandchildren: Joshua and Jessica Iverson, both of Northwood; two brothers, Paul Madsen and his wife Kay of Albert Lea, and Irl Madsen and his wife Beverley of Northwood; as well as other relatives and friends.

Besides her husband she was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Mark Iverson, who died on June 21, 1978; a brother, Richard Madsen; and two sisters: Lucille Loberg and Marie Myran.
