Woman injured in downtown collision

A 27-year-old Albert Lea woman was injured Thursday morning after she was reportedly hit by a vehicle that ran a red light and then collided with a parked Alliant Energy truck near the intersection of Broadway Avenue and Clark Street.

The truck in turn was pushed into and broke out a glass door at the Alliant Energy building, 100 N. Broadway Ave.

According to police, Jaycie Erica Martinez was transported to Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea after the crash just before 9 a.m. Thursday.

Police reports stated Martinez was reportedly driving north on Broadway Avenue when she was hit by a vehicle driving west on Clark Street, driven by Ralph Gene Solland, 74.

Police stated Solland struck Martinez in the right rear quarter panel of her vehicle, but then Martinez hit the gas and ran into the parked Alliant Energy truck, which in turn was pushed into the Alliant Energy door.

Witnesses stated Solland had a red light at the time of the collision.

The crash remains under investigation and no one has yet been cited.
