Police are still looking for the suspect in the Oct. 21 shooting of a 16-year-old Austin teen.
Austin Police Captain Curt Rude said the first suspect, taken into custody early Oct. 22, in Albert Lea, turned out to be the wrong person and was released shortly after. They have not released the names of either person yet.
On Wednesday morning, Rude said the focus has &uot;changed directions,&uot; and they have narrowed down the list of suspects. He hopes there will be an arrest very soon.
Rude said the investigation has progressed &uot;slowly but methodically&uot; because witness statements were difficult to sort out. The victim is recovering in Rochester.
Five shots were reportedly fired near the 800 block of Fourth Avenue Northeast in Austin on Oct. 21. The victim had a bullet lodged near his aorta and also suffered a gun wound to one of his hands, according to Rude.
The other three shots missed the victim.
