ALHS swimmers win at Rochester Mayo

ROCHESTER &045; After two events, the Albert Lea High School girls’ swimming and diving team faced an 18-12 deficit.
They made sure it didn’t get out of hand.
A 1-3-4 finish in the 200-yard individual medley lifted the Tigers into a 23-23 tie and, four races later, they broke it open by going 1-2-3 in the 500 freestyle on the way to a 98-88 victory at Rochester Mayo Thursday.
Samantha Cole won two events for the Tigers, the 50-yard freestyle in 26.98 seconds and the 100 freestyle in 58.89.
The other individual firsts were by Leah Matheson, 200 individual medley, 2:32.11; Jackie Elwood, 100 butterfly, 1:08.65; and Rachael Hagen, 500 freestyle, 6:13.31.
Matheson, Krista Horejsi, Whitney Walters and Cole combined for first in the 200 freestyle relay, clocking 1:49.68.

The Albert Lea junior varsity won 83-73. Firsts for the Tigers were by Klick, 200 free; Amanda Walters, 50 free; Carly Schmitz, 100 free; Alyssa Nelson, 500 free; Ali Schmitz, 100 back; Grace Thomas, 100 breast; the 200 medley relay team of Ali Schmitz, Thomas, Walechka and Sara Judd; and the 200 free relay team of Trisha Reindl, Emily Gaudian, Thomas and Carly Schmitz.
The Tigers return to Rochester Tuesday to face John Marshall.
