Editorial: Make time to take in county fair

Today, what some refer to as &uot; The Six Best Days of Summer,&uot; begins.

The Freeborn County Fair is something no one should miss.

From top-notch grandstand entertainers, local entertainment, an action-packed demolition derby, to a new Midway, farm animals and livestock shows, exhibits and, of course, fair food, there’s truly something for everyone. And that doesn’t happen just by accident. Fair board members work all year to make sure things run well and there’s something to appeal to all ages.

Planning for this year’s fair began with last year’s, booking what worked well and finding other things that fill in areas that are lacking. The board books its entertainment &045; which fair officials from other counties are very envious of &045; in the winter months.

The fair is also a place to see your neighbors and friends. Sometimes the fair is the only place you run into someone all year. In today’s hectic pace, it’s good to see that people still make time for the fair.

Attending the fair makes you a part of local history. When the weather cooperates, it’s not unusual for 90,000 or more to come through the gate. That many people can’t be wrong.

The fair’s purpose is to entertain and educate. We hope everyone makes an effort to be entertained and learn a little something again this year.
