Elvin Wogen, 91, Kiester

Elvin Wogen, age 91, of Kiester, died on Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at his home in Kiester.
Funeral Services for Elvin will be at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, July 12, in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Kiester. Reverend Dick Steffen will officiate. Visitation will be held at Bruss &045;Heitner Funeral Home in Wells from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 11, and one hour prior to services on Monday. The burial will be at Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery in Kiester.
Otis &uot;Elvin&uot; Wogen was born in Humboldt County, Iowa, on June 27, 1913.
His parents were Severin &uot;Sam&uot; and Bertha &uot;Lizzie&uot; (Wiig) Wogen. He was baptized July 20, 1913 in Corinth Township Lutheran Church.
He attended country school there. He moved with his family to rural Lake Mills, Iowa in 1926.
He was confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church. He moved with his family to a farm south of Vinje in 1930 and to a farm east of Kiester in 1933. He was united in marriage to Muriel Wuerflein on May 8, 1940 in Scarville, Iowa. They farmed in the Kiester and Wells areas. In 1986, they moved to a home in Kiester.
Elvin was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Kiester where he served as president and other offices on the church council, member of Men in Mission and a Bible study group. He had been a member of the building committee of the church. He was also a former member of the Faribault County Fair Board and former member of the Kiester Lion’s Club. His hobbies included woodworking, golfing and gardening.
He is survived by two sons; Wendell Wogen of Windom, Paul and wife Carole Wogen of Crystal, grandchildren; Elizabeth, Matthew, Sarah, Jonathan and Benjamin Wogen, one brother; Stanley and wife Evelyn Wogen of Lake Mills, sisters; Selma and husband Milton &uot;Jim&uot; Sime of Lake Mills, Luella Flo of Lake Mills, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 2002, brother Milford Wogen, and special nieces and God children; Nylene and LuAnn Wogen.
