Editorial: Celebrate safely this season of graduations

Commencement ceremonies take place at Albert Lea High School Friday and have already taken place at some area high schools. With those ceremonies come celebrations.
We urge those celebrating to do so responsibly.
Parents work for a good part of the school year planning the after-graduation party so grads can have a fun last evening together in a safe atmosphere. We commend them for all the work they put into that celebration.
But as the individual parties start, we remind people that it is illegal to serve alcohol to minors. Serve alcohol-free drinks at open houses. That way all guests &045; no matter what their age &045; can travel from the party safely.
As for the graduates, we remind them also to think before using drugs or alcohol at any get-togethers they may have with their friends.
There is nothing sadder than hearing about a young person whose life is just beginning being snuffed out prematurely by alcohol or drugs. Families have worked hard and put a lot of love into raising their children. They want to see them grow into productive adults.
Please keep that future in mind when celebrating.
