50 years ago – 1961

The Albert Lea High School football team fell to a record of 3-3 in the Big Nine Conference after losing to Rochester 32-7. Curt Pickavance scored the touchdown for the Tigers.

Ray Jacobsen of the Albert Lea boys’ cross country team placed fourth in the regional meet and qualified for the Minnesota State cross country meet.

In high school football, Ellendale defeated Adams 28-7 and New Richland scored a 14-12 win over Waterville. Andy Thompson scored two touchdowns. Bob Hagen and Mike Ribbe one each scored one touchdown for Ellendale. New Richland touchdowns were scored by Billy Hanson and Mike Hatle.

25 years ago – 1986

Terry hintz gained 155 yards on 14 carries for South Central in their 35-0 win over Granada-Huntley-East Chain. South Central’s season record was 8-1 after the win.

Emmons High School’s volleyball team evened their Border League record at 6-6 after defeating Delevan by scores of 15-13, 15-13 and 15-12. Andrea Honsey served for 10 points for the Eagles.

Freeborn High School defeated Lyle, 21-8, in the final regular season football game. Toby Koziolek, Tim Jacobson and Chad Ramirez scored touchdowns for the Yeomen.

Ellendale-Geneva improved to 7-8 in the Gopher Conference with a victory over Medford by scores of 11-15, 15-4, 15-3, 8-15 and 15-8. Kim Anderson had 10 ace hits for Ellendale-Geneva.

 

10 years ago – 2001

In the quarterfinal round of the Section 2A girls’ soccer tournament Albert Lea defeated Northfield 2-0. Liz Reynen recorded her sixth shut out of the year. Megan Levison and Mariah Levison scored goals for Albert Lea.

The Albert Lea boys’ soccer team advanced to the semifinal round after defeating Mankato West 2-1. Matt Olsen and Ryan Lowe scored for the Tigers.

The Lake Mills volleyball team won the semifinal district game by scores of 15-7, 15-5 and 15-4. Kelsey Christianson had 17 kills. Katie Pederson 16, Ashley Pederson recorded eight kills and Jill Helgeson had seven kills for the Bulldogs.
