Funeral services for Doris L. Broitzman of Northwood, Iowa, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 14, at the First Lutheran Church in Northwood, Iowa. The Rev. Paul Homer will officiate. Visitation will be held Saturday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Wanders Rest Cemetery, rural Gordonsville.
She died Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at the Northwood Lutheran Home. She was 78 years old.
Doris L. Broitzman was born on Aug. 28, 1925 in Erie, Pa., the daughter of Chris and Johanna (Bach) Bonnerup. As a child her family moved to rural Glenville. She was confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. She attended school in Glenville and Albert Lea High School. She was employed for a time at the Wilson Co. in Albert Lea.
On September 14, 1947 she was united in marriage to Harold Broitzman at the Salem Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. After their marriage they farmed east of Gordonsville where they raised their family.
She was an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church near Myrtle, was a Sunday school teacher and active in the ladies aid. She then became a member of the First Lutheran Church in Northwood.
Doris enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping, dancing and in her later years traveling to Texas for the winter. Attending her grandchildren’s activities was a joy to her.
Doris and Harold moved to Northwood in June 2000 and entered Lutheran Retirement Home.

Glenville, Suzanne (Mark) Senne of Northwood, and David Broitzman of Albert Lea; grandchildren: Todd (Jody) Broitzman of Hayward, Dean (Lonna) Broitzman of Clarks Grove, Daniel Schutz of Northwood, Jolene Schutz and special friend Cody Hickle of Northwood, Vicki Solland and special friend Dave Shaw, and Amber Frondal, all of Phoenix, Ariz., Stephanie Broitzman of Glenville, Jessica and Matthew Lowe of Northwood, and Brianna and Ryan Broitzman of Albert Lea; seven great- grandchildren; three sisters: Ruby Baumgartner of Aurora, Colo., Florence Brzezenski of Albert Lea, and Lois (Kenneth) Gayken of Glenville; sisters-in-law: Velma Bonnerup and Maxine Bonnerup of Albert Lea, Mable Perleberg of Glenville, Nadine Broitzman of Northwood, and Helen Broitzman of Austin; and many nieces, nephews, as well as other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Esther Falksen; four brothers: Charles, Donald, Richard and Norman Bonnerup; and granddaughter, Ann Broitzman.
