John Olivero, 76, Highland Falls, N.Y.

Mr. John Olivero, was a retired Sergeant First Class, 30-year veteran and member of the United States Military Academy Band at West Point, and the elite Hellcat’s Drum and Bugle Corp. He also worked 17 years as a civil service employee for the Department of Motor Pool at USMA, West Point, N.Y. He was a former Bosch’s Garage school bus driver.

He was a 76-year area resident of Highland Falls, N.Y. He died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at his home. He was 93 years old, and was the son of the late Vincezo and Genevieva Olivero.

He was born Feb. 26, 1910, in Brooklyn, N.Y.

He was a Fourth Degree member of Knights of Columbus Council #515 of Highland Falls, member of Sacred Heart Church, Highlands Falls, and an avid area bowler.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice A. Herrick Olivero; and son, John J. Olivero, Jr.

Survivors include a son, R. James Olivero and wife Pamela of Albert Lea; and daughters: Shirleyann Rossi and husband Achilles of New Windsor, N.Y., Rosalie Minetos and the late Peter Minetos of Clarksville, Tenn., and Debbie Olivero of Highland Falls, N.Y. He had 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

A mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, at Sacred Heart Church , Highland Falls, N.Y. The Rev. Jack Arlotta officiated. Burial was in the Post Cemetery in West Point with full military honors.

The arrangements were under the direction of the William F. Hogan Funeral Home of Highland Falls.
