The funeral service for Elaine R. Langemo of Albert Lea will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. The Rev. Wayne Halvorson will officiate. Interment will be at Lakewood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, and one hour before the service at the church.
Elaine died on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, peacefully in her sleep after a lengthy illness at Thorne Crest Retirement Center, Health Care Wing.
Elaine was born on Jan. 9, 1927, in Albert Lea, the daughter of Richard A. and Gladys (Thompson) Schacht. As a young girl she attended Northside School and was confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea on May 11, 1941. She graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1945.
Elaine married her high school sweetheart, Bob (Albert Robert) Langemo on July 21, 1946, at First Lutheran Church. The had a beautiful wedding and outdoor wedding reception that is remembered fondly by many friends and relatives. They lived in Minneapolis and attended the University of Minnesota, both pursuing their pharmacy degrees. Elaine received her pharmacy degree in 1949, and Bob in 1950. In 1950 they returned to Albert Lea to join Elaine’s parents, Richard and Gladys Schacht, as partners in the North Side Drug Store on Bridge Avenue, which later was called Northpark. Elaine was a certified fitter for various supports and prostheses. Elaine remained active in the business until her failing health resulted in its closing in 2002.
Elaine was an active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert Lea, where she had sung in the choir and had been a member of the Ladies Aide.
Mrs. Langemo is survived by two children: daughter, Kathy Diane and her husband Darrell Dugdale of Superior, Wis., and son, Stephen Robert Langemo and his wife Vicki of Brooklyn Park, Minn., three grandchildren: Alyssa and Laura Langemo of Brooklyn Park, and Rebecca Diane Dugdale of Superior, Wis.; one sister-in-law, LaVonne “Bonnie” Bonnerup and her husband Robert of Albert Lea; three nieces; one nephew; and many Thompson cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; and her parents, Richard A. and Gladys E. Schacht.
