Funeral services for Gene G. Barrett, age 76, of Albert Lea, will be held
2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, at St. Theodore’s Catholic Church. The Rev. Kurt Farrell will officiate. Interment will be in St. Theodore’s Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Freeborn County Veterans’ organizations. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with a prayer service at 6 p.m., at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. Visitation continues one hour prior to the services at the Church on Friday.
Gene died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, at his home in Albert Lea, surrounded by his family.
Gene George Barrett was born Sept. 17, 1927, to Paul B. and Josephine (Holan) Barrett in Forest City, Iowa. He grew up in Wells where he graduated from high school.
Gene served in the United States Army from September 1946 to January 1948. On October 22, 1955, he was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Hoehn at St. Theodore’s Catholic Church in Albert Lea.
Gene had been employed at Streater’s and was a member of St. Theodore’s and the Eagles. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, bowling, and hunting.
Survivors include his wife, Mary of Albert Lea; children: Diane Hagen of Lake Mills, iowa, Debra and her husband Dan Solland of Lake Mills, Annette and her husband Steve Seberson of Albert Lea, Steven and his wife Deb Barrett of Albert Lea, and Shelly Ahearn and Paul Ahearn of Mankato; grandchildren: Kristina, Melissa, Jordan, Jessica, Mandra, Amy, Levi, Mindy, Callen, Steven Jr., Chelsea, and Joey; great-grandchildren: Kain, Karter, Rylee, and James; several aunts and uncles; and many nieces and nephews.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and sister, Corinne and her husband Lowell Elmer Sr.
