Fire officials warn against burning leaves

Albert Lea Fire Department officials want to remind city residents that burning leaves is not allowed within city limits.

Albert Lea Fire Dept. Lt. Al Schallock said firefighters have received three or four burning complaints each week for the last couple weeks.

If people want to dispose of their leaves, they should mulch them or take them to the Albert Lea Transfer Station on West Richway Drive for disposal.

An annual pass to dispose of yard waste costs $15.

Schallock said the rule about burning leaves was approved by the City Council several years ago because of potential health problems and other smoke and odor problems that could arise.
