Minding the museum

It is important to Thelma Guenther to get some new life in the Alden Community Museum.

She realizes that most of the people involved with the museum are getting older and she worries about who will keep it going.

&uot;(It) seems like we’re getting less and less,&uot; she said.

Guenther became involved with the museum more than 30 years ago when her parents were still alive and working at the museum.

Guenther enjoys when school children come and visit the museum. She also looks forward to going to the museum and making some discoveries herself.

&uot;It seems like every time I am in here I see something new,&uot; she said.

Guenther and the rest of the board of directors meet once a month. The museum is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day. The board has a meeting on Oct. 15 and meets in May to start cleaning for the upcoming summer.

Guenther is passionate about the museum’s effort to preserve Alden’s history and hopes to see more people get involved.
