HOLLANDALE — The 3-year-old boy injured last month after he was backed over by a riding lawn mower has been released from a hospital and is now continuing his recovery at home in rural Hollandale.

Petra Uthke, mother of young Landon Uthke, said her son came home from a Rochester hospital on Friday. He is adjusting to changes in his lifestyle after having his left leg amputated at the knee.

Landon had been in the hospital for less than a week.

According to the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office, the boy’s father, Kevin Uthke, was mowing the yard near the family’s home at 24818 Freeborn County Road 118, three miles south of Hollandale, on Oct. 23 when he reportedly backed up onto the child. Initial reports stated the boy received injuries to one of his legs and to his torso, but that the injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

Landon was ultimately flown to Rochester on a Mayo One helicopter.

Petra asked for continued support from the community through prayers as Landon recovers.

She also encouraged people to save pop tabs to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House, where they benefited from during Landon’s hospital stay.
