Here are highlights in history for Nov. 4, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:

1987 — A full page ad in the Tribune said the merchants on the city’s south side would be giving away 42 turkeys. All the readers had to do was fill out the registration slips for the sponsors.

1977 — A Tribune ad said Steve Martin would be presenting a program at the Mayo Civic Auditorium, Rochester, on Nov. 8 at 8 p.m.

1957 — A flu epidemic in Albert Lea resulted in 722 elementary school students being sick, plus  causing the death of a junior high school student.
