UP – To the Lake Mills volleyball team.
Sending back-to-back teams to state is outstanding, especially on the heels of an undefeated season. In playoffs, the Bulldogs convincingly crushed good teams: West Fork, Forest City and Sumner-Fredricksburg. We wish the girls the best at the Iowa state tournament in Cedar Rapids, and we know they will play impressively. Bring home the hardware!
DOWN – To celebrity Kim Kardashian.
Her marriage and subsequent divorce of Minnesota’s own Kris Humphries seems like a big sham, or, as Hollywood media are calling it, a “showmance.” Then she has the nerve to claim she married for love. She has no idea what love is. Love is definitely not surprising your new groom with divorce papers after 72 days of marriage. If love had been a factor at any time in the relationship, Kardashian would have sought counseling and worked harder with her spouse to go down the tough road of marriage. She played Humphries for a sucker to get TV ratings. At least the Minnesota native now is a household name, rather than only a pro basketball player. We wish him well with his newfound celebrity status. We can’t really say, “Poor fella.”
UP – To Boy Scout Zach Lind.
Thank you for having a vision and carrying it out to fruition. Lind saw the memorial at Front Street and Frank Avenue for hometown rocker Eddie Cochran was overgrown with grasses and weeds and decided it needed better decorative treatment. He decided to do something about it and made the work his Eagle Scout project. In the end, the rock on which the memorial is attached sits on an elevated flower bed surrounded by a rock wall. It’s really nice and improves the beauty of that corner.
