Weekend Planner: Circus, Crazy Days set for this weekend

Here comes the circus!

The Sunshine Circus will give two shows, at 3:30 and 7:30 p.m., Saturday, July 26, at the Albert Lea City Arena. Tickets will be on sale show day at the arena box office. Tickets are $8 for children 12 and under and $12 for adults.

There will be highwire acts, motorcycles in a steel globe, elephants, tigers, clowns, a crossbow act and more.

Following is a roundup of other events happening in the area this weekend:

Friday, July 25

-Crazy Days continue in downtown Albert Lea. In addition to sidewalk sales by downtown merchants, there will be booths on Broadway Avenue. The Albert Lea Art Center will hold its annual collectible and bake sale in conjunction with Crazy Days from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

-The original illustrations of Joni Oeltjenbruns, a children’s author and illustrator, are being exhibited at the Albert Lea Art Center, 224 S. Broadway Ave., from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.

-The Pelican Breeze will hold a pizza cruise at 6 p.m. Reservations are required before 4 p.m. Friday. Call 383-2630.

Saturday, July 26

-The Albert Lea Farmers’ Market is open in the parking lot at the corner of Broadway Avenue and Water Street from 9 a.m.-noon.

-It’s the final day of Crazy Days in downtown Albert Lea. In addition to sidewalk sales by downtown merchants, there will be booths on Broadway Avenue.

-The original illustrations of Joni Oeltjenbruns, a children’s author and illustrator, are being exhibited at the Albert Lea Art Center, 224 S. Broadway Ave., from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free.

-The Story Lady Doll & Toy Museum, 131 N. Broadway, will hold a &uot;Tea Party With Hazel and the Madame Alexander and Ginny Dolls&uot; beginning at 1 p.m. The event is hosted by Hazel Doyle, who collects Madame Alexander dolls. Members and children will be admitted free. Admission is $2 for all others. Attendees should wear a hat and bring a doll or stuffed animal for show and tell.

-The Pelican Breeze will hold a public cruise at 2 p.m.

Sunday, July 27

-Luverne’s Concertina Band will present the weekly free program of live music in Edgewater Park at 1:30 p.m. The band will present a varied program of polkas, waltzes and other tunes.
