EMMONS &045; Several times, opportunity knocked for the Glenville-Emmons American Legion baseball team.

But the opportunity was left stranded &045; in the form of baserunners.

Twice G-E loaded the bases with one out but failed to score in a 9-4 loss to Hayfield at Emmons Tuesday night.

&uot;Again, we had lots of scoring opportunities,&uot; said G-E coach Louie Toulouse, whose team dropped to 4-10. &uot;If we could have gotten some hits in the innings we loaded the bases, we probably could have made the game a little closer.&uot;

Runs were scored early and often, with both teams plating two in the first inning. Hayfield went on to add single runs in the second and third, tacking on two more in the fourth and fifth.

G-E left the bases loaded in the second and fourth innings.

Six players had one hit apiece for G-E. Isaiah Parry and Robert Flugum doubled. Josh Kluender, Michael Greibrok, Matt Learn and Wade Flattum had singles.

Flattum was the losing pitcher, giving up four earned runs in 1 1/3 inning. He allowed five hits and three walks. Flugum went the next 3 1/3 innings, allowing five earned runs on five hits, with four walks and one strikeout. Devan Kaasa pitched the final 2 1/3 innings.

G-E faces Kasson-Mantorville at 7:30 Friday at Emmons.
