Darlene Dorothy Yonkey, 62, of Wells died Saturday, June 28, 2003 at her home in rural Wells from complications of cancer that she battled for 22 years.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2003 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Easton. Rev. Ron Jobe will officiate. Visitation will be Monday, June 30 at the Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells from 4-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the services at the church Tuesday. Interment will be at Rosehill Cemetery in Wells.
Darlene was born May 3, 1941 in Mankato, the daughter of Howard and Eleanora (Schweim) Fratzke. She graduated from Mankato State in 1963 with a degree in music and education. She was a teacher for 30 years, teaching music and grades one through eight in schools in Rochester, Delavan, Minnesota Lake, Wells and Easton. She worked for two years at the State Bank of Easton.
She married Dale D. Yonkey on June 22, 1986 in Trinity Lutheran Church in Smith’s Mill, Minn. She played the tuba with her father in &uot;Howard’s Concertina Band&uot; from 1960-1966. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Easton where she served as organist for 20 years. She enjoyed reading, fishing, crosswords puzzles and spending time with her friends.
She is survived by her husband Dale Yonkey of Wells, one son Mike Yonkey of Wells, one daughter Michele and husband Mike Fields of Minnesota Lake, five grandchildren, one sister Evie and husband Denny Bakken of Madison Lake, Minn. and several nieces and nephews.
sShe was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
