When the Albert Lea U-11 girls’ soccer team hosted Rochester in recent action, the visitors were confident.
But not for long.
Rochester, which had defeated the only team to beat Albert Lea so far this season, was immediately put on the defensive and remained that way as Albert Lea rolled to a 5-0 victory.
A strong Rochester goalie stopped numerous early shots, keeping the locals off the scoreboard until the 5-minute mark, when Kelsey Paulson’s centering pass set up Abbey Arends for the first goal.
Then, defender Sophie Miller stole a pass and carried it all the way to a goal.
In the second half, Mariah Maras capitalized off a pass from Jenna Bowman. A few minutes later, Miller sent a long pass to Arends streaking toward the goal and Arends scored her second goal of the game.
Miller capped the scoring on a long solo shot.
The Albert Lea goalies only had to block a couple of shots thanks to another strong defensive performance by Morgan Stadheim, Kaitlin Cope, Miller and Ellie Johnson.
