Opal Petersen, 91, Albert Lea

Memorial services for Opal Petersen, 91, of Albert Lea, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. Dwight Netzer will officiate. Opal died Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Center.
Opal Petersen was born Nov. 3, 1920, to George and Nora (Festad) Olson in Hayward. She was baptized and confirmed at the Hayward Lutheran Church. Opal attended school in Albert Lea where she graduated from Albert Lea High School. On Nov. 2, 1941, she was united in marriage to Howard Petersen at the Hayward Lutheran Church. Opal worked at Boyd & Jacks for many years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, Albert Lea Senior Center and a life member of Sons of Norway. Opal enjoyed playing bridge, reading and working on crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed spending her summers in Vail and her winters in Florida. Most of all Opal treasured the time spent with her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her children: Ron and wife Ginny Petersen and Trudy and her husband Bob Walsh; the light of her life, her grandchildren: Joe (Alicia) Petersen, Ann Petersen, Sam Petersen and Brent Walsh; and sisters-in-law, Faye Olson and Jeanette Satre; she is also survived by loving nieces, nephews and special friends whose calls and visits she treasured.
Opal was preceded in death by her parents, George and Nora; husband, Howard; brother, Rudy; sisters, Mayme, Hazel, Gen, Olive, Eva, and Gerry.
Memorials preferred to First Presbyterian Church and Peace and Power at First Lutheran.
