LuVerne M. Burkhow, 87, of Pequot Lakes, formerly of Bricelyn, died Saturday, June 21, 2003, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, June 26, at the Bricelyn Lutheran Church in Bricelyn. The Rev. Patricia Hinkie will officiate. Visitation will be today, June 25, at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Bricelyn from 5-8 p.m., and one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Interment will be in the Bricelyn Lutheran Cemetery in Seely Township, Faribault County.

LuVerne was born May 5, 1916, the second oldest of five children born to Amos and Stena (Monson) Burkhow in Rake, Iowa. He graduated from Rake High School in 1935. He married Viola Leland on Aug. 29, 1939, in Nevada, Iowa. He was a farmer, a trucker and raised purebred quarter horses. He was a former member of Bricelyn Lutheran Church. He enjoyed music and played many instruments by ear and played in country western bands and in an orchestra.

He is survived by four children: son, Amos Larry Burkhow of Bricelyn; son, Ronald Burkhow of Albert Lea;

son, Leslie and wife Karen Burkhow of Rake, Iowa; and daughter, Julie and husband Douglas Morrison of Freeborn; 13 grandchildren: Lonnie and wife Ginger Burkhow, Jason and wife Tammy Burkhow, Jodi Burkhow, Laura Burkhow, Jon and wife Allison Burkhow, Aimee and husband Tim Struck, Sheri Burkhow; Jeff and wife Elizabeth Burkhow, Danny, David and Michael Burkhow, Angie and husband Gary Geesman, and Brent and wife Diane Morrison; 19 great-grandchildren: Megan, Sadie, Candace, Avery, Caleb, Brock, Raven, Cassannedra, Alek, Jaden, Landon, Jenny, Mary, Bobby, Tommy, Mallory, Brittany and Jordan; one brother, Clarence Burkhow of LeRoy; one sister, Alice Sertich of Sun City West, Ariz.; and nephews Wayne Cooley and David Bilyeu.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Viola, in 1951; sister, Viola Bilyeu; brother, Maynard Burkhow; daughters-in-law: Joyce and Jaylene Burkhow; nephew, Phillip Cooley; and brothers-in-law: Leo Levy and Tom Sertich.
