NEW PRAGUE &045; Again, the golf course posed some challenges for the Albert Lea Tigers.
This time they responded a little better.
The Tigers, a disappointing fourth in Thursday’s Northfield Invitational, shot 312 Friday and took third in the 10-team New Prague Invitational at Creek’s Bend.
Lakeville and Faribault shot 303, with Lakeville winning by tiebreaker. Bloomington Jefferson was fourth with 316, followed by Waconia at 321, Redwood Valley 328, Orono 330, Hutchinson 332, New Prague 349 and Lester Prairie 359.
&uot;We had great conditions today on an interesting course, to say the least,&uot; said Albert Lea coach Matt Addington. &uot;It seemed like each player came in with a hole or two that cost them a stroke or two, and they were disappointed. But, we scored better, we improved on some areas we needed to improve on after Northfield. The kids played decent today against some good competition.&uot;
Dan Breuer led the Tigers with a 74, good for fifth overall. He shot a 34 on the front nine.
Following for the Tigers: Adam Elseth 37-39, 76; Ross Stadheim 43-37, 80; Josh Jones 42-40, 82; Matt Bennett 41-43, 84; Ben Jones 39-45, 84.
Mike Fiedler of Faribault was the medalist with a 70.
&uot;We face Faribault again Monday, with a little more at stake in terms of the Big Nine standings, and hopefully we won’t leave strokes on the course like we did today,&uot; said Addington.
The Tigers host Faribault and Rochester John Marshall Monday at 2:30 at Green Lea.
