Committee seeks help for growing after-prom event

Each year, the Albert Lea After-Prom Party has grown. Last year, there were more than 300 young people at the event, which provides a fun, safe environment after the prom has ended.
This year’s event is scheduled from 11 p.m.-2:30 a.m. at Northbridge Mall, following the May 3 prom. There will be prizes all night long, caricatures, music and many games, including Fly Wall, an obstacle course, Jacob’s ladder, a money machine, Plinko, limbo and Twister. Food court vendors are open, and those attending the party get Tiger Bucks to spend at the vendors.
&uot;For parents, this is a safe, fun environment for the kids,&uot; said Cherie Seuser, one of the co-chairwomen of the event. &uot;They like the fact that kids don’t go driving around or leave town.&uot;
But while response to requests for donations to fund the event has been good, donations are down slightly from last year, Seuser said.
The event has always been under the umbrella of the Parent Communication Network, along with the after-graduation party, but this year, both groups were told to solicit for donations on their own.
The after-prom committee is seeking both cash donations and donations of items for prizes, Seuser said. Anyone who would like to donate an item may drop it off or call her at Western Rentals, 1801 E. Main St., 377-7917. Checks, payable to the After-Prom Party, may also be sent to Western Rentals.
&uot;We try to improve the party each year,&uot; Seuser said. &uot;We’d like to keep the interest up, make it grow.&uot;
